Changes To Come
The DSA (in conjunction with the DETR) are seeking to introduce a number of changes to the above provisions over the coming year. These changes include: Validity of CBT certificates has been reduced to 2 years but longer in the case of a car licence holder acquiring moped entitlement. The two-year limit for motorcycle entitlement for provisional licence holders has ended but they must re-apply every 2 years to keep this entitlement. The exemption from the requirement for the motorcycle theory test for car licence holders has finished. CBT now required to bring into force the (full) moped entitlement for new car licence holders who passed their test after 1st February 2001. On-road practical test to be taken with dipped headlight illuminated. CBT certificate no longer to be required for holders of one class of FULL motorcycle licence taking training/testing on a different class of bike. On-road training on bikes not exceeding 125cc (post CBT). Student/Instructor ratio restricted to 4 to 1 (2 to 1 for DAS would still apply). There is likely soon to be a requirement for all types of motorcycle instruction to be regulated and a register maintained of instructors authorised to conduct training for payment. This may be some time off however. |
