The Theory Test


The theory test is a multiple-choice test of a candidates knowledge of the Highway Code and other motoring matters. Application forms are usually available from local Approved Training Bodies who are also increasingly offering training to help pass the test. The test can be taken at a number of locally based centres.

The pass mark for the test is quite high (currently 32 out of 35) so a comprehensive knowledge of the subject matter is essential. There are books and a CD ROM disc now on sale that can help candidates, with their preparation and revision.

IT IS NOW A REQUIREMENT FOR A SEPARATE THEORY TEST TO BE TAKEN FOR EVERY CATAGORY OF VEHICLE SO CAR DRIVERS NOW NEED TO PASS THE MOTORCYCLE TEST AND VICE VERSA.

NB: The exemption from the theory test for candidates who already hold a full licence for a different catagory of vehicle ENDED ON 1ST FEBRUARY 2001.
